In an earlier article, I wrote about Black Spirituals, and how they were America’s Folk songs. However, Dr. Reverend McQueen gives a better explanation to the way America fits into the Black Spirituals. He explains that calling the Black Spirituals America’s folk songs can actually omit the Africanism and the African American ownership of the expression birthed through our experience.
