Geneva Norman is a Chicago vocalist, songwriter, musician and music arranger.  She has performed throughout Europe, including, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Poland, France, Spain, etc. She has performed   along the W. Coast of Africa traveling South along the Atlantic coast to South Africa and in 47 of the 50 United States.  She wrote the locally successful “Obama Vote Song” in 2007.  She is a storyteller and has been a student and actor at The Goodman Theatre, Free Street Theater, About Face Theatre, The Looking Glass Theatre and many others.  She is the lead vocalist of the Geneva Convention Band and the G2 band. She has arranged many pieces of work throughout her career and is currently the creator and executive director/producer of “The Aretha Project- Chicago Tour” which will present a performance of 24 talented artists using the “Devised Performance” approach; to honor the Queen of Soul, the late Aretha Franklin.

Geneva studied music since childhood.  She began singing in church from the age of 2. Her first paid job was teaching piano lessons at the age of 8. She studied music, dance and theater across the United States, from the “Cleveland Institute of Music”, to the” Brooklyn Academy of Music” in New York, to “ Clark Studios and Pepsi Bethel Studios” also in New York and at UCLA in California. Within the last 5years she studied contemporary music at “Berklee College of Music” in Boston. 

Her professional education and career was grounded in the sciences (a pre-med major with a concentration in physics) and across 3 health professions, including psychology (counseling), nursing (Nurse Practitioner) and medicine (physician) having attended Case Western Reserve University, Kent State University, The Ohio State University College of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, and the Chicago Medical School.   While working as a medical director for the United States Government, a major car accident left her neurologically compromised and blind. Without vision for 5 years, she returned to the comfort of her beloved music.  She studied music and performed at the Old Town School of Folk Music for 20 years and studied theater and storytelling at the Goodman Theatre. 

A lifelong love of music and the performing arts  was  precipitated by her musically and internationally acclaimed family including chart-topping paternal musicians “Kool and the Gang”, Betty Wright, and maternal connections, Dorothy Dandridge and  John Stephens aka John Legend. Geneva is a current Black Traditional Music Practitioner
