Phil Mintz is an award-winning editor and writer based in Long Island, New York. A native New Yorker, he first encountered the blues in the mid-1960s through the recordings of Chicago-based musicians such as Otis Spann, James Cotton and Paul Butterfield, as well as British blues musicians such as The Rolling Stones and John Mayall. He has written for many publications, including Businessweek , where he helped the publication garner two National Magazine Awards, and Long Island’s Newsday, where he was on a team awarded the Pulitzer Prize for coverage of a 1996 airplane crash. He currently studies blues piano with keyboard virtuoso David Bennett Cohen.
